9/17 Literature: Created a story diagram over Rikki and started answering questions in Google classroom over the story.

“Rikki Tikki Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling • Author of The Jungle Book • Genre-fantasy Characters Rikki – protagonist – mongoose- looks like a cat and a weasel, curious, smart, quick, brave, loyal, -- washes up in a flood. Nag & Nagaina – cobras- antagonist – goal is to rule the garden Darzee – tailorbird, foolish coward Darzee’s wife – smart, helps Rikki the most Cuchandra – muskrat, shy, scared • The main conflict is external between the mongoose and cobras • Conflict cannot be avoided, it is a part of human or animal behavior • The author makes the characters seem real by giving them loyalties and conflicts Setting – Bungalow in India Climax – Battle with Nagaina Resolution – Rikki kills Nagaina and saves the garden Plot – story about a mongoose protecting his human family from cobras Theme- good over evil • Story is being told in 3rd person but it represents Rikki’s point of view
